Depends on the die. Are they typical 6 siders, are they 4 siders, 20 siders. Every differently shaped die is has a different number of spots.

If we are talking 2d6, then 42 (21 per die). Other dice don't usually use spots; they use numerals. FYI, the sum of opposite sides of the die are equal to the number of sides on the die plus 1 (7 for a cubical d6), as is the average roll for two dice of that type.
