  • Do you mean there may be puppies out there on the highway somewhere alone? Can't you go out to where he hit the dog and try to find them? Then, whether you find them or not -- she may be able to lead you to them -- you need to take her to the vet. She might have internal damage from being hit, or she may be still pregnant. Her milk will dry up, if there are no pups, if you limit her food to normal for her size (she will want more because she is making milk, but she should only have the normal amount) and also the vet can give her a shot that will help a lot and reduce chances of infection. You really need to see a vet and also go look for puppies.
  • Reduce her water and food intake for 24 hours. Cut her food down to a normal amount for a dog her size after that. You must also limit stimulation on her breasts. If she licks them, which will stimulate milk production, try putting on a t-shirt and tieing it in the back (depending on the size of the dog.) Like someone said above, it's important to take this dog to the vet to check for internal injury. (Also to check for a microchip!) Have you contacted all of the local vets, shelters, rescues and police? Let them know about the dog you found... give them specific details about her size, color, the fact she may have just given birth, etc etc etc. Someone could be looking for her and missing her dearly. Try also posting in your newspaper. Often times they will not charge you to place a "found" ad. Good luck!
  • We searched vacant lots and fields yesterday, went door to door. Very rural area, and famous pet dumping area. Have flyer at the closest gas station. She did get up and walk on her own yesterday afternoon. Vet visit this morning. Thanks for all your help!
  • She will stop just like a human does. When the puppies aren't nursing, she will just stop doing it.
  • You can try to let her searche for her puppies on leash if she can move again. Drying up should happen al by itself.
