Where do you think America would be today if it wasn't for Bill Gates? Would we be better or worse off?

Entrepreneurship is what drove and drives this country into being the top dog. Freedom of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is what drives people such as Bill Gates.

Better in some ways, worse in others. Grandma couldn't use a puter to see pics of her grandkids, and there wouldn't be million-node zombie nets and rampant phishing/ID theft/online scams to near the extent that there is.

OS/2 and Apple would be the OS's on PC's, and we wouldn't even miss Windows. MS was the best at letting other companies use their software, which is why they took over, so possibly the state of PC usefulness wouldn't have been so advanced. And MS was focussed on developing and selling Word, Excel, etc, and IBM had other things on their plate too, so maybe we'd have slightly more primitive versions.
