What gets better mileage, a diesel or gasoline vehicle?

    I don't have the statistics, but judging because most large truck use diesel and companies that use large trucks want to control cost and save money; from that I would assume or deduct that driving trucks with diesel is more cost effective than driving trucks with gasoline.

    Mileage??? OR Fuel Economy??? Diesel is much longer lasting engine with Fewer Repairs & more Versatile on what it will run on. Gas is more Economy, but not a lot. In Europe the humble old "WV" in 1966 was going 110 mph on the Autobahn & getting 52 MPG!!! So good that Uncle Sammy put a stop to the GI bring it back with him because Ford, Chrysler & Chevy Cried so damn much!!! John

    All other things being equal, a diesel-engine vehicle will get superior fuel economy.

    Diesel engines operate at a higher compression ratio (which, thermodynamically, translates to a higher peak operating temperature) that turns more of the energy of the fuel into propulsive force.
