  • It is for most all of your post vietnam era rifles. The laws vary from state to state, but most have a minimum limit on caliber, bullet weight and velocity pertaining to the game. Most states you cannot use a 30 carbine to deer hunt, they are too underpowered.
  • Most military grade sniper rifles aren't much different than an ordinary hunting rifle. I don't know which rifle you want to hunt with, but if it shoots the .308 NATO than it is more than likely legal to hunt with. There are actually hunting rifles that are more accurate than military grade sniper rifles that shoot the 308.
  • Some people believe that any rifle equipped with a telescope sight is a "sniper" rifle. Strictly speaking, a sniper rifle is one designated by a branch of the military for precision shooting at long ranges and for killing people. Now to hunting rifles. Essentially a hunting rifle functions exactly the same as a sniper rifle...namely, it is designed to kill animals at a long distance. Any military sniper rifle that doesn't qualify for banning under some legislative restriction (like "assault rifles" that are banned in California)is probably suitable for hunting. Just as many hunting rifles would be suitable for use as sniper rifles. We're talking about very accurate rifles designed to kill at long distances.
  • yes and no most military type weapons are semi auto. which is legal. having a fully auto weapon, or hunting with one, in the usa is illegal. it is also very illegal to have or modify a weapon to fully auto without a federal license
  • In Canada, you can hunt big game with any long gun of a caliber not less than .223.... so that would include those firearms that many consider to be "sniper rifles" (like a Remmy 700 tactical, which is just a gussied-up bolt action, or a Colt AR15 -not the full auto, BTW, they're prohibited here) or older military arms like the Garand or Lee-Enfield.... they were sniper rifles at one time, too, ya know.
  • Yes it is leagal to hunt with sniper rifles, but with semi autos such as the M-14 it is not the rifle that is in question but its carring capacity it has for its clips, where I live it is unlawful to hunt with a semi auto with a carring capacity exeeding 5 rounds and that is the law here, but in no way is it legal to hunt with the Barret .50 cal.
  • I don't know of any state law anywhere that says you can't hunt with a weapon of appropriate caliber. I'm sure some genius has been able to convince someone somewhere that hunting with scary looking guns is too horrible to contemplate for those armchair drivers sitting at home worrying about what some hunter is doing in the woods. Check your State laws on the NRA website. I use this for deer.
  • Sure it is, as long as you don't load more than the legal amount of bullets.
  • It is illegal until you buy a license for it. No matter is it bolt action or semi-automatic. As much as I know you can't find license for automatic rifles. That means you can have everything which is not automatic.
  • Sure it is
