Do you find text looks worse on Windows and Linux than on OS X? How can one configure fonts to be as readable and pretty?

I think it depends on what you are used to, to be honest. I don't think one is necessarily universally worse than the other at font rendering. Check to be sure ClearType is enabled though I guess.
