Help answer this question below.

My boyfriend has yellow knots on his tonsils and they bother him. but if he picks them off, he feels fine again. Any idea what this could be?

    I'm sorry but that's entirely gross. He's probably got an infection and needs antibiotics.

    Are you sure they're his tonsils he's having trouble with? A lot of people get other parts of their mouth and throat confused for their tonsils.

    He clearly has a terrible infection. THe thought of him putting his hands down his throat and picking things off is, frankly, repulsive, and will only keep the infection going (if not make it worse). Get him to a doctor immediately. Untreated infections can be serious.

    The lumps are called calculi of the tonsil, or tonsilloliths (tonsil stones). They are harmless and actually quite common.

    First, don't pick those off because your hands are dirty and will only make it worse. Second, rinse with warm salt water, it cleans the bacteria of the back of the throat, and don't drink liquids with sugar, the bacteria feed on it. Third, go to the doctor for antibiotics, it is probably strep throat.
