On Yahoo Answers, my question was deleted "What year were you born" and I had over 50 answers, but then it got deleted and the reason was "chatting". Now does that make any sense at all?

Dude, we're talking Y!A here. The whole place makes no sense. Don't try to make sense out of a puzzle that is missing pieces and had pieces of another puzzle to make up for the ones that are missing. It will just drive you crazy.

But that's why this place is cool. Not only are those questions allowed, the are encouraged. So is chat.

It is supposed to be a site for asking questions that you need answers for. Instead of having to find them with a search engine, you can get someone to give you answers that are more specific to your own problem. In the case of your question, you didn't really need answers, you just asked a random question for no apparent reason. It makes perfect sense to me that it would be deleted.

How would the number of answer determine whether a question is a violation of the rules or not? If you cannot follow the rules on any site, no matter how many other people agree with you, you will be penalized, and that includes AB.

i just gave up on yahoo-your question would have been considered chatting by yahoo-the place is to restrictive to its users-i am a level 6 top contributer there and have decided to just give it up as it really isnt worth it anymore-it seemed like everyday i would wake up and have to go appeal an answer or question that differed from someone elses opinion-yea you can get you points back but it isnt worth the trouble you have to go through-i only wanted to answer questions for others------this place seems pretty cool so far-----smile and enjoy the night

Yahoo answers sucks, i was a member for a day, before i got deleted for apparently being offensive, i only answered 2 questions both to do with vitamins, which the askers said they found very useful, there was no foul language or anything, so it doesnt surprise me what they did to you , its generally full of young kids as far as i can tell

Chatting is a violation. They tell you that if you want to chat you should go on Messenger. They're just trying to keep it strictly QnA I guess.

I used to go on YA a lot and had accumulated quite a number of points, but gradually they became the "sphincter police" about the least little things, so I quit. I'm glad I found AB. Its so much better that YA can't even begin to compare. So come on over from the Dark Side and enjoy discovering what a real online Q&A forum should be like.

Yahoo Answers frowns upon output that it thinks resembles chatting. The reason? It says if you wanna chat, Answers is not the place to do that because Yahoo has chat rooms.

I don't really care about the deletion. What really sucks is the:

I don't know about their rules, but I'm glad I found AB instead of Yahoo Answers.

Yahoo Answers is the worst web site ever invented.I was a member once opon a time and they suppended my account for no reason really. me and this other girl passed a few words, and i was kick out she said as much as I did so I wouldn't never sign up to be a member THEY SUCK!!!!!,And no that makes no sence at all.

We are not allowed to discuss Yahoo here on AB....leaves a bad taste in our mouths:) Seriously , I have never been to Yahoo but I hear it doesn't compare to AB.

You cannot post any questions that involve any form of chatting, unless you place it in the Polls & Surveys section of Yahoo Answers.

Your question will get deleted if it violates the rules of chatting. That's one of the problems with yahoo answers is that anyone can report your question and get it deleted. It happens all the time.

i'm assuming you posted it in p&s. i've posted similar questions. it is a poll. you should appeal and see if that would get you anywhere. i know y!a is great at justifying their violations...making up B.S. that doesn't make any sense. some troll/stalker probably found your question...i'm sure someone has already asked that question and tell yahoo they didn't receive a question because it's still posted. good luck.

YA has gotten REALLY REALLY bad. People report your questions/answers for no reasons and YA staff just gives them a violation notice and deletes their account. There are members who had 200,000 /300,00 points whose whole account was deleted for too many violation.. (as many as 50 in one day) YA staff doesn't check to see if it's valid first..they just auto delete and assume it is..YA has some people that are absolutely totally rude. I asked a question yesterday (about immigration and jobs)and out of 16 answers, I got 13 that did nothing but criticize me, call me lazy, tell me I am just stupid and a BI*** and **** and*** the list continues.... so trust me when I tell you YA is no longer a site that welcomes your opinion and experiences. It's a site full of people who think they are God and that it's their way /their beliefs or no way... Go in there and go to YA section or go to search and key in violations and read it.. you would be amazed. and the forum.. that's the biggest joke.. For over 2 years people have been listing the problem of false reporting on the forum.. still nothing has gotten done. I mentioned in earlier and some moron wrote a comment that "i was an idiot because YA would not give me a false violation".. he must be on their staff or has been asleep for the last 40 years... They don't care..

That was technically considered chatting but thre are a lot of questions on there that are asked that NEED to be deleted and they never are .. I think yahoo has their favorites and they get away with anything and the rest of us can go screw off

do you know if you choose to appeal now they take 10 points from you just because you choose to appeal. it's true.. You should see the site now (some of my other posts explain it).. people are getting as many as 50-100 VN a day.. HONEST TO GOD.. I asked a question on there the other day being funny" who opened the door and let all the trolls out.. ".. I got a violation for that.. Do you believe that.. I asked another one about why people who do not know you and have never met you seem to always want to tell you where you screwed up in life.. That got a violation. Go read the forum...

I just decided to come over here. At least the kids are not running the site and neither are the trolls and AB staff CARES about this site. Never gotten a violation here but I am assuming that ab staff actually verifies that it's true and not just assume it is. I feel like my wisdom is really appreciated here

No i am a refugee from yahoo they suspended me as i violated the guidelines , i asked what is your favourite colour 20 people answered i dont use it anymore its rubbish too restrictive .

It was a personal question, not applicable or useful to other users. TBH there are a lot of questions on AB that are also chatting, but it seems it's not a problem to the management here.
