Question

Help answer this question below.

I have a 2000 chevy silverado. The service 4 wheel drive light stays on. The control panel that controls the 4 wheel drive apparently needs to be changed because it is a faulty part. However will that get my truck to shift out of 4 low?

The control panel usually throws the Service 4WD message due to inadequate soldering techniques when they were manufactured. If you're having difficulty in shifting the transfer case from one selection to another it could be the encoder motor. Today's transfer cases no longer have linkages as they now have encoder motors which do the work of shifting from one selection to another. These encoder motors rely on 8VDC and less thus do not apply 12VDC in testing scenarios.
