most definitley but more importantly it's about how much they wear. Even an expensive cologne smells awful if they practicaly bathe in it. Even more to the point is knowing a really good cologne from one that is just overpriced and comes with a tonne of expensive marketing

I can tell the difference, just as much as I can tell the diference in high and low end womens fragrances. It has something to do with the depth of the scent: the more "complex" and multilayered it is, the more expensive it is. less coslty fragrances can sometimes fall a bit flat.

But there are some really expensive scents that I think smell like fermented bird vomit, and some $7.99 colognes that make me feel all gushy and tingly when someone walks in wearing 'em.

I think that sense of smell is a highly subjective thing, and no matter what you wear, someone will always think you smell fantastic and someone else will gag as soon as you get within 15 feet of them.......

Yes and I hate Axe and the like. My faves are Gio and Zegna.

Actually, I find that my preference changes depending on the guy... My boyfriend usually wears Axe, so I like it when thats what he smells like. It says, "Lover"... My dad wears Stetson, so that's what I like on him. To me, that smell says, "Daddy"

But yes, I can usually tell the difference between the expensive versus the inexpensive... Personally, if a guy wears one cologne all the time, that smell becomes him in my mind and that's what I'll prefer him to smell like...

I really don't like Axe or Bod, but I love the smell of Right Guard (I don't know why, but I can't help it). So how expensive something is means nothing to me. There are some cheap colognes that really turn me on. There are some expensive ones that I love, too.

To me, any less expensive fragrances, even women's,
use cheaper and unfortunately more chemical components.
I would prefer a man to use something more expensive or
just a clean smell is perfect!! I had to ride in a
vehicle with a male who had doused himself in some
sort of cheap cologne and I had a headache the minute I
    smelled it!

my b/f wont even let me wear cheap perfume. We go to the Nordstrom counter and do about 45 minutes of extensive smelling. He's actually really good at it. Also i prefer the designer cologne rather than the 20 or 30 dollar stuff...or even the 5 dollar stuff. There are somethings i dont go bargain

Hetero men generally don't care. My gf likes something called armani black code on me. Otherwise I'm clueless.

I can definitely tell the difference however, it depends on the guy and his choice of "cologne" because as long as it doesn't smell like "skunk oil" then we're good.
