Regarding Divorce: Some say people these days are just not committed I think, the divorce rate is just high these days because women are not forced to stay due to lack of freedom, financial dependence, or religious shame. Agree? Disagree?

Personally, I think it is for a few reasons.
    1) Love has become just a word you say. People throw around "I love you" like it's freaking candy. They don't mean it, I'm not even sure they know what it is.

    2) There are so many people that think marriage is just a game. "Hey, I think I love you today so let's get married!" Then a few weeks (some mere days) down the road, "Ok, I don't love you now"...and all they have to do is sign some papers or whatever. The sanctity and meaning of marriage has been seriously diluted. It is now just something you do to pass the weekend and you can make it go away whenever.

    3) Teen pregnancy...huge problem. Parents forcing their children to get married JUST BECAUSE they got pregnant....even bigger problem!

While I absolutely agree that much of divorce is due to the fact that women are no longer 'trapped' in marriage, I also feel that there is the attitude that if a marriage doesn't work out, or is 'difficult', that divorce is the easy option. While I completely support people's right to divorce, I think some people expect marriage to be too easy and don't want to work for a happy relationship.

The bottom line is when people get married for the wrong reasons they don't have to stay in it anymore for many of the reasons you listed.

Agree. My 94 year old grandma told me that she laughs when she's told sentimental type shit about her long ass marriage. She said straight out that women use to have to be "more humble" and take more shit from men than women do today. She said that "in these times", she'd never have stayed with my lying cheating grandpa as long as she did. I loved hearing her say that!

Not saying that that's the only reason for high divorce rates, but I do feel that has LOTS to do with it. Anyway, the reasons marriage was "invented" don't exist anymore. It seems a somewhat untrainable goal.
