Do you know anyone who still carries around a fanny pack? Oh, and is "fanny" an inappropriate (like, to say in school or around your grandparents) or is it just a slang word in the United Kingdom?

My step mum & dad use what we call bum-bags here in Australia. It is useful when they are walking or running.
The term 'fanny' in Australia refers to female genitalia & it is a kids word. So we generally don't use the term fanny (it may be different in some states).

I haven't seen many of them around, and I don't think fanny is an inappropriate word at all. I'm in the U.S.

Locally 'fanny' is a commonly used word whether meaning a fanny pack or someones hips.
