• I have a friend who I tried to call "Beni" (kanji for scarlet / lipstick-colour red) instead of Ben. But that was quite a while ago.

• I named one of my brother's friends Chibi Ichi (Little One) because he was so short...
  Then he got taller than me, and now I have to call him "Ichi"

• Lol. When I was little, I called one of my cousins Chibi Hina - her name's Hinatsukie - I even gave her the nickname Hina in hiragana ('cause Hinatsukie is written kanji and it was too complicated for me to write at that time)...She got angry at the nickname and told me she hated it...Since then she hated being called Hina or Chibi Hina. But I still call her Chibi Hina anyway.

• I still call my sister Mary "Mina" because she looks JUST like Minako from Sailormoon. She hates it, but I've done it so long she tolerates it at this point.

• Uhm... no. But I had a Dragon Ball Z roleplaying game character named Kinoko... which if I remember correctly means "Mushroom" (because all the Saiya-jinn are named after vegetables)

• Well, firstly, do you prefer hiragana or kanji, or mix of both? If you choose hiragana, do want the name to mean something? And do you want it to sound like something in English (e.g. "Kara" can sound like "Colour" and "Kuroi" (literally means black) can sound like "Chloe")?

• I agree with you there. My parents try to teach me the Kansai as well as the standard Japanese as well as Ryuukyuu 'cause our family originated from Okinawa and it all gets very confusing...
