Moving is simple, but the worst part is having a yard sale and watching things you paid $50 or more going for $5.

I imagine that would depend on how long you lived in the house and how much of a pack-rat you are. Some people live a very minimalistic life wherever they are, others love to hoard and find it difficult to let go of material things they have acquired. You could always try to find an affordable storage facility for the overflow but if you aren't using stuff, it's probably best to just give it away to someone who can. Here is a great site for sharing your stuff: Freecycle.org

Less housework is a benefit.

If you are willing to part with a lot of belongings, it shouldn't be too hard, in that respect. If you live with several people (or even one other person!), it could put a strain on relationships to be in such close quarters. The benefits include a simpler life style (no yard work, for one thing!),and easier cleaning job (thanks to less room to put THINGS!).
