Ethiopian rulers were known as Neguses just as the Egyptian ones were known as Pharoahs. It is reported in some seerahs that the Negus at the time of the Muslim migration to Ethiopia to seek asylum from their persecution in Mecca accepted Islam after questioning the refugees. However, it is said he kept his reversion a secret from his people fearing a rebellion against him if he made it generally known.

I do know this that Muslims migrated to Ethiopia. The unbelievers demanded the king of Ethiopia or the then crowned Negus to hand over the Muslims to them but He refused to by saying that he will not take any action until he knew the truth of their religion. Their Hazrat Jafar gave a speech, which described the main principles of Islam and what Holy Prophet had taught them. After listening to the speech he refused to send the muslims back but he wanted to listen to a ayat from the Holy Quran and Hazrat Jafar recited a small protion of the Surah Maryam. After listening to that Negus said "By God this and the Gospel are the light of one candle" It is also said that he reverted to Islam but He kept it a secret because of the fear of rebellion. But can you refer the place where it is says that Holy Prophet instructed the muslims to give him a funeral.
