Annihilus, sometimes called the Living Death That Walks, is a Marvel Comics supervillain. He was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Fantastic Four Annual #6 (1968).

Annihilus an opponent of the Fantastic Four, who lives in the Negative Zone (another dimension) where he is a monarch. Annihilus is an enemy of Blastaar, another enemy of the Fantastic Four. He is a member of an insectoid race and possesses alien technology far in advance of what is encountered on Earth. He is armed with a unique and powerful weapon, the Cosmic Control Rod, but he has become utterly paranoid that anyone who sees it will want to steal it, hence his hatred of the Fantastic Four, as he depends on the Rod for survival. Mister Fantastic once travelled to the Negative Zone and took the Cosmic Control Rod to save the life of his then unborn son, Franklin Richards.

Annihilus has survived certain death on numerous occasions; while his body has been destroyed, he has been reborn again from within his original body into a smaller weaker state, one which quickly grows into his former self, complete with a new cosmic control rod.

On another trip to the Negative Zone by the Fantastic Four, a weakened Annihilus, nearing the end of his life, was again killed, this time by Hellscout, a member of a group of pilgrims who had been sent to the Negative Zone on their crossing to America from England, who had confused him for a demon because of his appearance. Although Annihilus's body was deceased, he lived on in an embryonic form left within his armor, which eventually hatched out and grew to maturity. This reborn Annihilus reappeared in the 2005 comics mini-series Fantastic Four: Foes to attack his eponymous enemies, but found himself under attack by an identical duplcate who claimed to be the true Annihilus. The Fantastic Four escaped as the two Annihilii battled, but no explanation for the existence of a second Living Death Who Walks has yet been offered. The conflict between the two, however, seems to have been resolved, as it appears Annhilius is now leading the Annhiliation Wave, to conquer the universe. His forces have already destroyed the Kyln, an interglactic powerstation and maximum security prison, and planet Xandar, headquarters of the Nova Corps.

In the Blink limited series, Annihilus became involved in a brief romantic relationship with the Age of Apocalypse version of Blink, when he was deposed from power and reverted to a more human-like stage of his being. He eventually mutated back into his customary Annihilus form, but he still retained some memory of Blink, although what effect this has had on him on a long-term basis isn't apparent. Annhilus' memories of the Fantastic Four entering the Negative Zone prove this is not a counterpart, as the Fantastic Four never existed in the Age of Apocalypse, and that there's seemingly only one Negative Zone in the Marvel Multiverse.
