The way in which receptive anal can kill you, is usually via contracting an HIV infection. This is something that through condoms, communication and a little common sense, can be entirely prevented. Even so, it won't be the anal sex that finally does you in, it will be the opportunistic infections you'll aquire some 10 years later. John Holmes died of HIV related causes. He could have passed HIV on to others that he was having unprotected sex with. This is probably where you heard it. Even so I wouldn't say "John Holmes killed them," I would say "They acquired HIV from John Holmes, and died of related causes a decade later."
Diseases aside, the only way I can think of that a penis could ever kill you is by violent, forced suffocation... in which case it would be a blowjob, not anal sex, that does you in. Even so if you find yourself in this situation, just bite down hard :p

from trauma done it can kill you. you can tear up the other person and cause some real damage if you do it incorrectly and violently. but this is not a risk most willing partners need to worry about
