    Sure you can.
Mind you, this depends on the color values not clashing (not too likely in this case) and styles not clashing (unlikely if both items are simple) and the fabric textures not clashing (generally an issue that you don't think about much, but important). Easiest way to tell is try it on and look in the mirror. If you are still not sure, go show off the outfit to a friend or neighbor and ask. Most people are NOT shy about telling you if something doesn't look right together.
I wear black and brown together quite often, but then both colors look just fine on me.

    JD.

my 2 major rules in clothing are 1. black and brown should never be worn together and 2. white belts are bad... always. but anyway, that's just my opinion :)

If there's contrast between the two colors it's great.

Style is a regional thing. Black and brown seem like they would match but of course it would depend on the eye. Then again it could be too dark as Anonymous mentioned. You seem set on the brown top so as an alternate choice of bottom wear I would suggest dark clay blue denim or anything beige.

well it depends...like, where are you going? You might not want to have an outfit that has two dark colors, because it might make the outfit look too...well, dark! But it's not like it looks horrible or anything, it's just if you have dark hair or complexion, you might want to use a lighter color. But anyway, if you do choose to where the balck pants, i'm sure that'll be fine.

You can definitely wear the colours together - I'd be more worried of how the styles of the top and pants work together.

If you're uneasy about wearing the colours together, you might carry yourself without confidence - that would be the only thing that would make me not recommend the combo.

If you think you look good, you'll carry yourself well - and people will comment/think about your style/flair.

I hope you decide to go with it - and feel fabulous!

I definitely would not suggest white which would be fashion faux pas but I would suggest a muted darker color which wold accentuate your color top rather than make it clash or obscure it.

I just recently bought a dark brown fitted scoop neck shirt and a black pair of capri pants. They were both cotton material and look GREAT together. At first, I questioned it, too. But when I put it on, I thought it looked great, so if it looks good....go for it!!!!!

I generally prefer to avoid mixing dark brown and black, just as I generally avoid mixing navy and black. Too much dark together doesn't work for me, unless it's a single color.

    The consensus seems cautious.

Do you have a second choice?

BTW- the brighter the light, the greater the risk with this combination.
