Help answer this question below.
I looked it up and what we call a size 10, is actually an American size 6. Anyway, I think the fact anyone has agreed to operate on her is utterly ridiculous, as she is THIN.
In the US, board certified bariatric (weight loss) surgeons will operate on those with a BMI (body mass index) above 35 if they have illnesses related to obesity, otherwise its 40 or above to qualify for an operation. someone that is 5'5'' would have to weigh about 250lbs to have a BMI of 40.
Nobody that is "thin" is getting a weight loss surgery in this country, unless its in an alley.
Some people use less strict criteria in other countries but i havent heard anything like that.
Well just sit down and talk to her about why she wants to and then ask her for 5 good reasons then tell her how unsafe and dangerous this could be just be really concernative about it and sensative. (treat her as the best friend on earth and tell her she is fine how she is)
Good Luck
Contact the professional association for medical doctors in your country/state/province. This sounds like a doctor who should be reported.
report the doc to your country's medical licensing board.
I think I would report the doctor. That is ridiculous.
O.O That's silly. The surgery is generally a last resort because of it's effects on the system. I'd be willing to bet you could almost report that doctor.
If your friend is an adult it's not your position to "stop it." You can tell her that she really doesn't need it but it's her body and if she chooses to do this then, that's her decision.
I guess you have already sent her al the warnings and negative news about gastric by-passes that you can find. If you haven't already done so, try ASK or GOOGLE.
You are right to warn her, but sometimes people get an idea into their heads and then they cannot be disuaded.
At some point, after you have sent her all the information you can, you will have to accept her decision.
All you can do is tell her how you feel. Start excercising with her. Size 8 ain't that big.
If she found a doc willing to do gastric bypass on her, he is not a reputable doc. There's something very fishy here...and it's terrible that she would even want to do this procedure at her size. She needs help with her self image. I have a feeling that she may be one of those that will never be thin enough no matter how little she is. The surgery worked great for me but you have to be nearly 100 pounds overweight. Good luck.
Find the name of the doctor and report him.
The doctor that is willing to do this surgery on a person, that obviously doesn't need it - needs to have his licensed revoked!

Definitely. I mean, that's my size. Yeah, sometimes I don't exactly feel skinny, but a gastric band is just truly unbelievable.
