  • Usually this means that the brake pedal is not meeting the switch, as your car needs to have the brake pedal depressed in order to start. The brake pedal switch is located on the upper section of the brake pedal, under the dash board near the floor. Make sure it connects when you push on the pedal. Otherwise, the key insert should be (IF there is one) located on the center console near the shifter and that will allow you to reach Neutral, then you can start the car.
  • Is the steering wheel locked as well? And is your emergency brake on? If so then, press your brake pedal down completely, release your emergency brake, let up your foot pedal and re-press it all the way down to the floor and hold it there. Turn your key to the 'on' position but do not start the car (electric should go on), this should release your steering wheel, then start the car and try again to shift out of park. If this doesn't work, then I'm out of ideas.
