  • you'll be fine, there are no long term side effects, now would you like me to tuck you in? And what Bed time story will it be tonight?
  • I dont sleep for days on end sometimes and have never felt any ill effects from it, However i guess it depends on why you aint sleeping and if your using something to keep you awake as mine is i just dont need sleep.
  • i work 3rd shift at a hospital, so i sometimes have to work extremely long hours. to be honest i have gone 3 days with 2 hours sleep. you will start to feel like your on some hard core drugs. you beguin to get manic and crazy. your bones will feel like they are shaking inside and you may get a head ache, hyper, lose appetite, hallucinate and at worst you may go into cardiac arrest.... but try to crash when you start to feel tired again. if not you can always take a benadryl. but i'm no dr :)
  • You'll be right! Have a nice glass of milk. And Goodnight!
  • Join the club..I'm on my third day...
  • Don't try so hard. Try instead to stay awake, and like someone else said "think of something boring". That's where counting sheep comes in. One sheep, two sheep etc. and soon you'll just go to sleep to get away from those darn animals! gd luck. :) xD
  • Depends on your state of mind. If you can have relaxed/restful thoughts not too much damage will be done
  • You don't say why you haven't slept but you could be suffering from insomnia if it continues so I would see your doctor. You can recover from insomnia & it is usually a symptom of something e.g. depression, rather than a problem on it's own or it could just be your lifestyle. If you mean, can you recover literally from the 2 nights sleep you have lost, then yes you can. There was a programme in the UK on called Shattered years ago & it was a bit like Big Brother but the contestants could only sleep for very small amounts of time. The host said that although sleep deprivation effects you badly & in a lot of ways, once you've had a good nights sleep, you're back to "normal" again.
  • I feel for ya it sucks.
  • I'm going on day 3. My eyes are dry, red, heavy - every drop of visine on the face of this planet couldn't take the read out. I suffer from 3-4 day episodes monthly (for about 17 years now) getting ZERO hours sleep during these episodes. I've suffered from some of the most physically, mentally, emotionally, and psychologically disturbing experiences derived from a sleep deprivation episode. Definitely feel that shaky in the bones thing SPLITT mentioned. By day 3, I sincerely feel like I've been up doing shrooms, E, blow, etc - basically feeling like a crackhead. I get paranoid, jittery, cold due to poor circulation, insanely irritable, on the verge of tears at any given moment, extremely fragile - both emotionally and physically. Loss of appetite. After the first 36 hours I get very pale and sallow in the face, dark under-eye circles, and flaming red, chapped lips (sounds real attractive, right?). These physical side effects occur b/c the essential nutrients that need to get to the surface of our skin in order to keep a healthy color (and to regenerate fresh skin cells) aren't able to get to the surface - this only can happen during the first stage of sleep (called 'deep sleep'). Deep Sleep occurs before REM and dreaming, and happens about an hour after falling asleep. Deep Sleep is the most important sleep to get since this is when the body repairs itself. This explains why it's possible for us insomniacs to feel almost completely back to normal after even just 2-3 hours sleep following 3-4 day benders. I have been prescribed every single, solitary med for treating this - nothing, and I mean NOTHING helps. For the love of God - please offer up any advice. Unless all you have to contribute is B/S melatonin, any OTC meds, antihistimines, benzos, pot, Ambien (all variations), Lunesta, etc.... you catch my drift. Give me something new to try - who knows, maybe it'll work... By the way... what the hell do you guys do when you're up all night??
