Do you have ugly discolored teeth that affect your confidence and beautiful smile? Maybe you have heard about the hydrogen peroxide whitening solution and wonder if it really works. To answer this question, I have talk to my local dentist about the pros and cons of hydrogen peroxide whitening agent and how it affect your teeth and overall mouth's health.

It is widely used as a chemical to clean sinks, table tops and disinfect wounds due to its ability to kill germs and bacteria. You can usually find a bottle or two under your bathroom or kitchen cabinet. Even though it has been used in the industry in its purest form, you can only get the 3% hydrogen peroxide whitening solution over the counter.

    Hydrogen peroxide whitening solution pros

It can whiten your teeth and keep your mouth smell fresh after use. You can dip your tooth brush inside the bottle and brush your teeth with it. After you're done, spit out the excess and rinse your mouth thoroughly. You can also use hydrogen peroxide whitening solution as a kind of mouthwash to keep your teeth white and your mouth fresh.

    Peroxide teeth whitening agent cons

It is not recommend to use over 3% of hydrogen peroxide because it is pretty dangerous. The FDA has warned about the risk of serious health issues or even death if using the hydrogen peroxide incorrectly. I used the hydrogen peroxide whitening solution only once in a week because it can soften the surface of your teeth and cause irritation to you mouth and gum. It is also known that these results are not permanent and make sure you ask your doctor before using it.

What are the safer ways to whiten your teeth?

If you can afford a teeth whitening treatment from a local dentist, it is much safer to do so. However, the bills could go up the roof and it's not really worth it. Another solution is to use those over the counter teeth whitening pen or lipstick. These products don't give you permanent results but it is much safer and FDA proof for your teeth's health.
