  • Recent tests of motor oils indicate that there is very little difference between brands. Over time, the standards for motor oil have become very stringent and the chemistry of the additive packages is quite sophisticated. I doubt that using Pennzoil will cause you any difficulty if you change it regularly. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/ Good luck.
  • It never ceases to amaze me how many incorrect and bogus accusations are made about a product. In this case, motor oil. I have used several brands of 5w30 motor oil in my 1998 Chevy Cavalier. I purchased the car new in June 1998. I have definitely used Pennzoil motor oil over the years, both conventional and synthetic formulations. There is absolutely no way that a motor oil meeting the latest ILSAC/API standard will harm your engine. Feel free to use the Pennzoil 5W30 if you like. It won't do any harm to your engine at all!! So long as you don't have any serious oil consumption problems or leaks, the Pennzoil 5W30 will be fine, so long as your owners' manual says a 5W30 weight oil is permitted under specified climatic conditions for your area
  • Ok, I asked someone who is a member of SAE and a few enginneers and engineering techs on oil. Today, Pennzoil and Quaker State are most likely fine. It was back in the day when they used "Pennsylvania Grade" crude to make motor oil that caused those sludge problems, and yes, that Pennzoil motor used to hold true. Now Pennzoil and Quaker State is owned by Shell Oil Products U.S. (SOPUS). The motor oil of today that the engineers said to back away from was Citgo. It Contains high concentrations of parrafins, which is what caused the sludging in Pennzoil back in the day. However, even though that Parafin causes sludging, it is also a good lubricant. Pennzoil high mileage oil should be fine. My personal choices are Q synthetic from Quaker state, or Mobil 1. Alot of the technicians used Mobil 1 in their cars. Filter is also as important. Stick to your Original Equipment for Ford, otherwise use something like Purolator Premium Plus, Wix, Hastings or Mobil 1 filters. Fram is a bad filter for oil filters. Good luck, hope this helps.
  • AS long as it has the API label any new oil will work fine
