I know a great many people who believe in God and also in life elsewhere in the Universe. Believe what you believe and what YOU feel is right, others can't tell you what you should and shouldn't believe...they may disagree but ultimately you have to follow what's in your heart when it comes to matters of faith. P.S. if you want a cynical veiw, read the the short story 'The Star' by H.G. Wells.

They're quite reconcilable. If you're Christian I can point out that there is nothing in the Bible that precludes the existence of life on other planets, and there are Christian denominations which expressly believe in such. I generally consider such insistence on the non-existence of extraterrestrials as being yet another manifestation of flat-earthism, and geocentrism. (Ideas which are not fundamentally Biblical, yet are believed by small minded religious people. Possibly even supported by narrow readings of biblical passages.)

Hey Bon, as a self-styled philosopher and Christian I found myself pondering this very question (indeed this is what led me to find your question). I can tell you that the Bible neither confirms nor denies the existence of extraterrestrials. So the question is, if there is life on other planets, why? I do not think any E.T. would be sentient (atleast not in the sense humans are) but I could see the possiblity of other plaents with plant life, and if there is plant life their might be different fungi, bacteria, and possibly lower order species such as worms to till the ground. Infact there could be bird-like creatures to spread seed, and bee-like creatures to spread pollen. I do not think we will ever find "Little Green Men" or any other kind of Alien fulfilling a human-esque type roll, the Bible makes it clear that the heavens were made for us, not for E.T. So are aliens reconcilable with the Bible and Christian Faith, ofcourse God can create whatever he likes, however I believe Man-kind remains as the dominant species on this earth and all others. God Bless!

I agree with you. I things there are many worlds in this universe and that God created all of them. It is very hard for me to believe that with all the galaxies in the universe we are the only living planet.

There is a lot of space out there, I think it is silly to think that we are the only life. I'm an atheist, but I don't understand how belief in a god is at odds with belief in ETs.

The Catholic Church admits the possibility of other intelligent life in the universe. Vatican: It's OK to believe in aliens: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D90KSE100&show_article=1 and http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7399661.stm Do space aliens have souls?: http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/0506301.htm One interesting suggestion is that aliens have never disobeyed God, committed Original Sin and therefore do not require salvation. God keeps them away from us for their own protection. This is why we only see glimpses of them (UFOs) but no real contact can be made. Just a suggestion. It would be interesting if they had a seven day week. With love in Christ.

In my opinion the God of the Old Testament YHVH Elohim and all the other Elohim in the OT ARE extraterrestrials! And YHVH is not omnipresent - not when he is always having to send messengers to different places to find out what is going on with the humans on the loose. The Elohim created humans to serve them - as slaves. The Elohim have sons, who had sex with women humans, their children are called Nephilim. Unfortunately your not-so-trusty christian bible translates them as "giants" and "mighty men of valour". Nothing is as it seems! Great question though. :)

Of course these beliefs can be reconciled. Didn't Jesus say He had other sheep who are not of this fold? Besides, many so-called alien spokesmen have as much as said that ET's consider us to have minds closest in the universe to the Mind of God. They're looking forward to the time that we can interact, so they can ask about Him.
