I have a weird pain in my chest that makes my heart go off beat and then it hurts real bad for a while.. then at the same time I cant realy breathe.. kind of trying to fight for air. Been into the ER... and they never tell me anything! Anyone have advice

• Well It could be stress... I do dialysis 3 times a week, hold down 2 jobs and take care of a 4 year old daughter.. but what would they do for a person like that>

• Yes i have, and yes it does. But Of course you should speak to your doctor RIGHT AWAY because it may be something more serious than that. The ER is concerned with emergency situations only, and the doctors may not have the patience to give you the care you need.

• I'm actually having the pain right now as we speak but I dont want to go in because they will say the same thing.. it really hurts.. maybe I'll just take some sleeping pills and just overcome it

• I have.. but it was at the ER.. and they're never good there... but this pain goes away after like 4-5 hours but comes back frequent.. they always do cat scans and ekg's and chest ex-rays and can never find anything.. but being in the ER by the time I get any of these tests the symptoms have dulled to an annoying sharp pain and none of the breathing stuff... I dont know,,

• well - you need to be referred to a cardiologist so they can do further testing. emergency rooms only do a limited amount of testing - they don't diagnose non-emergent stuff. bascially, they run tests to see if you need immediate stabilization or admission - if it's not something immediately life-threatening they expect you to see your doctor on an outpatient basis. it's frustrating sometimes, but its' how it works.

• Yeah and its extra frustating because I allready have a doctor but he's not very good and he is a nephrologist (due to my kidney failure) So it kinda stinks to have to try and find a GOOD doctor.. I am really picky now that I know quite a few things about all this medical mumbo jumbo... what do I do there?? Just try um out or what? I dont have time for that!

• you can interview alot of doctors.... it's so hard to find good docs tho. i think your best bet is to call the local nephrology center and ask the *nurses* who the good docs are. they know.
  
  the er docs should have run your lytes when you went to the er. if the pain persists, make a pain of yourself. the squeaky wheel gets the grease. kidney failure can really affect heart function.

• I know kidney failure can hurt the heart function.. especially when my potassium and phosphorus levels are too high.. and thats just what I'm afraid of... 3 people from my dialysis clinic have died in the last 6 months because of the same thing I'm going through.. granted I'm only 22 and they were like in their 60's but it's still really scary.. I think I am gonna go in tomorrow

• good idea. you can't take chances with your condition the way it is. try and get some rest.. if it keeps up, go in! tell the doctors to run your lytes and cardiac enzymes to make sure you're not having a heart attack. you may be having runs of arrythmia that are causing the pain. it's just not worth taking the chance.

• Thanks... but now I CANT go in because my medical insurance got canceled on the 1st of Jan. I already owe 9k for 3 times of dialysis... hopefully they back date it but I dont think they would cover me going to the hospital and then nothing was found out.. and I dont have that kinda money to take a chance... sucks.. wish I was rich.. or atleast healthy... but thank you though for the concern
