  • Biblical literalists will claim that there are no contradictions--every such instance can be explained by properly understanding the context. My personal belief is that there are some factual inconsistencies, but most of them can be attributed to the fact that the books were written many years after the events they describe occurred. I believe that there are no contradictions on matters of proper conduct or theological truths, although there are certainly a lot of issues that are not as crystal clear as some theologians will claim they are. If you have concerns about any particular passages, please bring them up. I'd be more than happy to discuss them.
  • Very good question, to which there are many contradicting answers. As there are by the way many contradicting "Versions" of the bible. This is the fate of a religion with well in excess of 3000 distinct denominations and groups. Each with their own truth, which by necessity must contradict the other.
  • What are they?
  • they are not contradicting,it just that you haven't been able to decipher them accurately.
  • I find many MANY of the bible chapters, and such inconsistant, and contradicting
  • Because these verses are taken out of context and you dont mix and jumble verses to suit an answer. The new versions of the Holy Bible I would have nothing to do with as they are heresies to the good work of God, if you want a translation in english as close to the ancient texts as you can possibly get, seek the Old King James 1611 version. • There are contraditions because the Bible is simply a collection of books... and is NOT the Word of God. Jesus himself was speaking about the Word of God in the Parable of the Sower (Luke 8:11) long before the new testament came along... and I dought that he was sowing out those old testament scrolls either. So he was not speaking about the Bible. This will explain what that Original Word of God was all about http://gospelenigma.com And of course that Original Word had no contraditions.
  • 3. How many fighting men were found in Judah? * Five hundred thousand (2 Samuel 24:9) * Four hundred and seventy thousand (I Chronicles 21:5) Ever hear of rounding numbers up or down? ------- 42. Did John the Baptist recognize Jesus before his baptism? * Yes (Matthew 3:13-14) * No (John 1:32,33) Did John the Baptist recognize Jesus after his baptism? * Yes (John 1:32, 33) * No (Matthew 11:2) The facts are not disputed, only the timing. If you ask 5 people what happened at an accident scene, you'll get 5 different versions. This is not a contradiction, it is a confirmation.
  • Instead of listing contradictions, wich we *know* there are plenty of, I'll tell you why. Because the bible is an assorted collection of literary works written by many vastly different people at many different times. The contents was shuffled, modified and frankly voted upon (Look up 'council of Nicea'). Its no surprise that when you amass all that text, you'll run into contradictions.
  • The Word of God is not a book. The real Word of God came to John the Baptist out in the wilderness (an inner revelation). So the Word of God is not a book. It has to do with a cognition. This will explain it: http://gospelenigma.com So there are so many contradictions because the Bible is not the genuine Word of God.
  • Many different authors?
  • I think if someone wants to disprove something All they have to do is take it out of context. The Bible isn’t the only book that gets misquoted. Read what the serpent said to Eve All he did was create doubt the devil loves to create doubt … you see he doesn’t like the way the book ends so he wants to take as many with him as he can, because every single one that goes with him makes God sad.
  • Well, because it was "inspired by GAWD" (according to Christians) who must ALSO be full of contradictions, right? +5
  • Simply, because people wrote it, and not just one either.
  • People wrote it, and they make mistakes when translating..
  • People spoke lessons back then in parables. Jesus taught the way the great Masters did then, in parables, but there are still some jokers taking it all literally. Snore.
  • because it based on fairy tales and myths invented by man, man decided to write these down on paper for men/women to understand.. whilst doing so they added their own twisted ideas and thoughts to the mix with a big dash of bigotry, hypocrisy and contradictions.
  • The people who made it up were human!! fallible humans they make mistakes!! like we all do!! just it's left to us to figure it out being as their all dead now!! :-/
  • I beg to differ on that. here is a link to a good article that gets you thinking. http://www.watchtower.org/e/t13/article_01.htm
  • Because it has been edited, modified, translated, transliterated, and taken before counsils to determine what would go and what could stay. The over all message is still the same, but the wording has ben at times left alone, and then the next sentense over reworded to "make more sense".
  • The Bible isn't full of contradictions - there are a few and there are many more ambigities and conceptual nonsenses but not that many actual flat out contradictions. This is because it has been the subject of editing and manipulation by various church figures and authorities whose aim was specifically to take out such contradictions.
  • You are reading it the wrong way. You see what you want to see or what you have been programmed to see. If you were taught a lie to be a truth in school, you would naturally think anything that contradicted what you "know" to be true to be a lie. A house reflects its foundation.
  • Because it is a fairy tale. A book written and disected, mixed, shuffled and eventually picked through and pieced together by man.
  • Fiction books often are.
  • The Bible is a collection of many writings by many authors over a period of hundreds of years. There are stories, histories, biographies and letters and political commentary. There are songs, poems, wise sayings, laws, and commandments. There are lessons about life and love and God. Jews believe the authors of the Jewish Scriptures (Old Testament) were inspired by God. Christians believe the authors of both the Old and New Testament were inspired by God. The Bible's primary purpose is to teach us the truth about God and His (or Her) love for us, not to teach facts about history or science. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 105 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect1chpt2.shtml With love in Christ.
