Net Height: Net height is 7' 11 5/8" for men and 7' 4 1/8" for women. Co-ed competition is played on a men's height net. The official height measurement is made in the center of the net. The height of the net at the sidelines can be no more than 3/4" higher than the official height. If you're playing on sand, the measurements are made with the sand raked level, and no accomodation is made for your feet sinking in the sand. If you're playing on grass, the measurements are made to the ground, and not the top of the grass. The Site: The dimensions of a volleyball court are 29'-6" wide by 59'-0" long, measured from the outside edges of the boundary lines. In addition, you should have 10' (more is even better) clear around the boundaries. The result is a complete playing area of 49'-6" wide by 79'-0" long. http://www.volleyball.com/build_a_court.shtml The game is played on volleyball courts 18 metres long and 9 metres wide, divided into two 9 x 9 metre "team courts" by a one-metre wide net placed such that its highest point is 2.43 metres above the ground in men's competition, and 2.24 metres for women's competition (these heights are varied for veterans and junior competitions). There is a line 3 metres from and parallel to the net in each team court termed the "attack line". This "3 metre" line divides the court into "back row" and "front row" areas. These are in turn divided into 3 areas each: these are numbered as follows, starting from area "1", which is the position of the serving player: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volleyball Generally... "The height of the net shall be 2.43 m (7’ 11 5/8”) for men and 2.24 m (7’ 4 1/8”) for women. The net height is measured from the center of the playing court with a measuring device. The two ends of the net (over the sidelines) must both be at the same height from the playing surface and must not exceed the official height by more than 2 cm (3/4")." There is a grid on that webpage to vary the height depending on the age of your players. Source(s): http://www.volleyball.org/rules/basic_rules.html
