Mainly this is a combination of hardwood veneers and softwoods laminated together to form a structure similar to plywood. Some of the common woods are basswood, birch, balsa and variations of cypress. However, there are many other types of woods used as well. Typically harder woods and more layers of wood are utilized for more offensive style of play however, carbon fiber, titanium sheets and fiberglass are also sometimes sandwiched in the laminate to add stiffness while keeping the weight down.
