Is it true that the Dirt's song "Rooster" is dedicated to Staley's father? What does the song mean?

    "Rooster" is a song Jerry Cantrell wrote, dedicated to his own father. The song is about his father's survival of his tour in Vietnam. Jerry's father's nickname in Vietnam was Rooster.

    it is about Canrell's dad......but all of the men in the Sreaming Eagles division were called roosters.......the Vietnamese did not have a word for eagle.......so they called them rooster........

    Yeah if you look in the dirt liner notes Jerry thanks Jerry Cantrell senior and in brackets calls him "the Rooster"

    it is about Jerry C's father's experiences during the Vietnam war.....he told Jerry one time about them, but he said that he never wanted to talk about it again......take care....brian.....

    I heard that Jerry's dad was called rooster as a kid because his hair stuck up, like a rooster. Jerry said that in an interview once.

    Yes. It was about his dad surviving in the Vietnamanese War. The Vietnamanese had never seen and eagle (Screaming Eagles Division) so they called them roosters.
