Well the thing is... superman doesn't have to work out as it is said in the comics he gets his power from the yellow sun there for no need for a work out, when he is exposed to the sun his muscle build up.
His flesh is denser than ours, hense the bulltproofness. Just moving around with such dense muscles is a workout. He could do arobics for a workout
Well first he started lifting cars then he lifted buildings. And the *poof* he was instantly strong. ^_^
