this is so sad.

Two for each state-been that way since 1791.

Unless you're pretty lazy or dumb, it's really not that hard to find a copy of the Constitution of the United States of America.

- There are no Senators from DC. DC has US Representatives (non-voting I believe, as does Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands), but not Senators.

- So does DC have reps as well as PR and the Virgins? That sounds like too many. THere are 435 of them, right? Or am I wrong about that as well? LOL! I think it has been too many years since I've been in school LOL!!!

- There are 435 voting reps. DC, PR and US V.I. have US reps, but they are non-voting members.

- Ya, it is kind of ceremonial. They can argue the interests of their people, but that's about it. With PR and VI, the issue is that they don't have to pay taxes, so that's kind of the trade off. DC is the sticky issue, they don't have voting representatives, and they do pay taxes. So, many of them argue taxation without representation.

- Ohhhh! I think that's very interesting about the no tax, no meaningful rep. But it doesn't seem right that they pay tax in DC. How long has that been going on? And it's still going on??? Doesn't seem fair. Where's that tea party when we need it?

- I think it has always been that way, and still is. It isn't part of any state, and to have representation you have to be part of a state.

102, I think. Two from each state and the District of Columbia.

Edit: I was mistaken. D.C. gets only "shadow" Senators, who serve as lobbyists on behalf of the District. http://about.dc.gov/statehood.asp

So the correct answer is 100.

- That's the problem with wikipedia-it's no substitute for real research or using your head.
  
  If you'd gone to the Senate website you'd know that all seats are currently filled.
  
  If you'd used your head you'd figure that Mississippi wouldn't go three years without representation when there are mechanisms in place to have someone complete and unfilled term.

The Vice President, whomever it may be, is the boss, for a better term, of the Senators. Should we count him, too?

- No, because he is the VP, not a Senator, and only votes in the case of a tie. Additionally, while he is technically the President of the Senate, the true leader is the Senate Majority Leader.
