  • hummm? I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE, BUT INFORMALLY SPEAKING,, IF THE MOTHERS NAME WAS "NANCY".. mayby "LITTLE NANCY" for the time,, until she got big, or NANCY JR, OR "NANCY-ETTE" im kidding, mayabe the Jr, is the best, because people can see if it is a boy or girl,, so ??
  • As a joke, I was going to say, "Junior-ette" but if you check out these Google search results. They seem to indicate that "juniorette" is at least an acceptable form of junior. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=junior+juniorette&btnG=Search Personally, I like "Juniorita"
  • There is no form for that - just the mother's name.
  • This is a common Hispanic thing. We would refer to mother as Big Eva and daughter Little Eva.
  • Misses.
  • I can tell you with utmost sincerity that down in the mountains, they do sometimes refer to girl children as 'Jr'. You'll most commonly find that a middle name is more often used for that particular differentiation. So, using the 2nd poster's example, you may hear people refer to a girl child as Nancy Jr., but you will probably hear her referred to as Nancy Grace, for example. In legal documents, it is used to differentiate between women with the same name if they are a mother daughter set.
  • Sheriff Raff-Answerhag referred to the Hispanic practice of Big Eva and Little Eva. In Roman times, too, a diminutive morpheme was often used when a daughter was named after her parent. Julia's daughter was often Julilla. Agrippina's daughter might be Agrippinilla. Our modern name Priscilla is actually a diminutive of the Roman name Prisca, a name that hasn't been used for a long time.
  • Unfortunately, although I am sure that recent words have been thought of for this situation, there isn't really a term for it. We live in an extremely patriarcal society and generally men are the ones to "carry on the family name." This question reminds me of the whole Ms. and Mrs. versus Mr. Read some Shakespeare and I'm sure you'll see what I'm getting at.
