In case you have mucky underwear and want to hide it :o)

Good point! I don't know; my wife says the same thing!

In our state, I think it's a law that the ob/gyn cannot be alone in the room with the patient unless another assistant is present. Or perhaps it's the malpractic law that's driving that.

They do this for a courtesy to their patient. They don't need to be looking at you while you are undressing. You are there for them to perform an exam on your body, not how you undress. This all has to do with professionalism. Also, most will have a nurse or tech come back in the room with them during the exam as well. This is not only for their protection, but for the patients as well. I am speaking clearly for the professional ob's, not all.

its for privacy.the doc would still se it anyway but itll be weird and unethical if he/she would stand there while you are undressing...

witnessing a patient dressing and undressing is not part of their examination, and why do they need to be there for that part? They have much more important things to do...like examine other patients. They go from room to room to room and expect their patients to be ready for them, so they can do what they went to school for 15 years to practice. If they wasted time that way, they would get much less done in a day. They have a tremendous amount of work to get done in a short amount of time. It would be quite unethical and has nothing to do with the reason you are there to see them.

A lot of women feel uncomfortable undressing in front of the doctor, and dr's realize that. They are showing their patients respect by leaving the room. They can get a few more of the many things that they have to do before the end of the day, done during that time. They are using their time wisely!

I think they do it out of respect. It's one thing to have your clothing off and waiting on a table for an exam. It's another to watch me slip my undergarments off while the watch. Would feel like a strip tease and make both parties uncomfortable.
