Hello,
The door ajar switch is located at the bottom of the door latch. You will need to remove the door panel to gain access to the switch. The complete below is not displaying you will need to copy and paste the link and add t=19469 to the end. If that does not work, search google for "How to replace the door ajar switches". The instructions are for a Ranger, although this is the same for my 98 Explorer. I found this link after I spent a couple of hours figuring out where the switch was located..

Look on the rear edge of the body opening for the door.
There should be a switch that looks like this:

It might be underneath a rubber cover.
My experience is that if you have a faulty switch, disconnecting it will turn off the warning light.

You're reading Where are the door ajar switches on the 1997 explorer? If found can they just be unplugged or is a jumper switch required?
