I hope so :-) I think it's the person that counts and not the colour of his skin.

I honestly don't think that race has anything to do with it anymore. I'm not saying that racism is dead or anything like that, I just think its about who has a better plan for the U.S.

I am a white guy, and I would never vote for Barack Obama. Has nothing at all to do with race, 100% to do with policy. I wouldn't vote for Hillary Clinton for a similar reason, -- not gender, but policy. I think Dr. Condoleezza Rice would make a fine candidate, and may be considered the Republican choice for VP. Time will tell, though, and this is going to be a really fun election year!

Absolutely - it is only the bigoted, naive, ignorant, malicious few who still see colour as an issue. (No seriously, anyone who thinks colour changes anything should be ashamed of themselves - not for being bigoted, but for being such an overwhelming idiot.) ***** The United States would indeed be in a sorry state if something as base and unimportant as 'skin colour' played a part in Presidential elections... ***** I believe American voters are not only mature enough, but smart enough to be 'colour blind' in the upcoming elections.

I don't believe race or gender is going to factor into people's choice for president. The people that I've talked to are so worried about the state of the U.S. that what they're looking at are the qualifications and who they think has the best chance to correct the problems (or at least some of them) in the U.S. It's sad that it took our country disintegrating to get people to choose a leader by qualifications, but at least it looks like people are finally doing the right thing.

I think it is great that Obama is a candidate who is black rather than a Black Candidate. I am delighted that, to a large slice of the electorate, his race really is not relevant. Yes, I think the small number of people who are genuinely racist would almost certainly vote Republican anyway (which does not mean that I am accusing Republicans in general of racism).

What I can see of Obama, he is a democratic version of Ronald Reagan. So as of now, he has my vote.
-
Well. the other edge of the sword is the people who will vote for him for the sole reason that he's black. Are those people appropriately mature? When Dinkins lost the NYC mayorship to Rudy G, Bill Clinton lamented how unfortunate it was that the voters of NYC couldn't get past the color of Dinkins' skin. Ironic how over 95% of black NY'ers voted for David Dinkins. Voting for or against someone because of race should be enough to permanently disqualify a voter, IMHO.
-
No I don't. Blacks are lining up to vote for Obama because he is black and will give them more attention in his presidency. If he loses there will be riots...watch and see.

There is a saying: Better bad that is known than good that is unknown. It means that not all that glitters is gold. It also means that a person may appear to be good at the beginning and turn out not to be, i.e.m fidel castro and adolf hitler....only time will tell. I hope that Oba is a good person, but why does he refuse to produce & open the records that Americans have asked for?

mac, during the campaign, there was an outrage as i've never seen before; yet, even the media played into their hands...i'm 62, i've never seen anything like what is going on. ...I had seen unequal justice for same crimes depending on who did the crime (whites/blacks)(rich/poor) ...but as i've followed the news and as I read through the News Report, it is no longer shady-dealings- business in the backrooms, it is now done in our face, shamelessly. I forgot to mention that during the campaign; AOL was truncating our email against oba...and wouldn't allow youtubes against oba to open. They have found illegal contribution money & we don't hear of any actions. Why isn't Blagojevich in jail awaiting trial like 'most' criminals, he was arrested and they say 'innocent til proven guilty'...then why did they arrest him? in prison, they would have bound his wings to keep him from doing the political circus he'd doing therey removing the focus of people's concerns on Oba's political queries

It would depend on the kind of job Obama does. Oddly enough, I think that the better he performs, the lesser the chances any other black man has. People aren't looking at this as a matter of race but party affiliation and since we only have two parties, people vote for the opposite of whichever one is causing the most damage
-
Well I just hope they made a good choice in electing Obama as the president, as with all the past presidents we run the risk of not knowing if their intentions are honest or if they will take action in the promises they made before becoming president. I think Obama won because a lot of black people voted for him and a lot of minority races because of his race I guess they feel like he will do more for them.
