When you're in Itunes choose a playlist. When it displays the songs, up in the top left corner click on FILE in the drop down window that opens choose show duplicates. This will show you all the duplicate songs in that playlist. When you're done. The bottom of the playlist page showing the songs says: show all. Click on that to return to all the songs in the playlist.

You could write a list of all the songs on your iPod and then go through that list and cross out any duplicates you see and go through your iPod and delete them.
