  • Perhaps the game's spinoffs have given it such rapid popularity that everyone is buying the original game. It isn't particularly expensive, it's just hard to find. If someone tries to charge you more than $20 for the game, especially if it's used, it's pretty much a rip-off.
  • *************************** accidental double post so I might as well add the picture of the video game you are talking about: ****************************
  • Yes I agree with crimson that If someone tries to sell it for more than $20 to you then they are ripping you off. Personally I haven't seen a spike in the prices of FF7. Although that is only how it is in my area. My guess is that people's interest in the game has been sparked by the recent release of the FF7: Advent Children movie that just came out. Also there are many toys and other merchandise featuring characters from FF7 being sold. With all that is going on with that, the demand for the original game has increased and people are seeing their opportunity to cash-in. ********************* Here is a look at some of the toy parts that they have come up with and also a look at an image with characters from the FF7 movie that just came out:
  • Because it went out of print so long ago, most of todays kids were only babies when it was readily available. Since the ''advent'' of Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis etc, it's suddenly spawned a new interest - plus the fact that with the latest FF games getting so much attention, fans of those games want to try the whole series. And as everybody says (and I agree), FF7 was the best, so everybody wants a copy. You can still find it on internet shopping sites such as Ebay or Amazon and it should only be expensive if you live in a way-out country and can't pay to overseas through the internet. Even so, I haven't seen it go for more than NZ$100 on my little island so it should probably be quite cheap wherever you are, provided you can find it. You just need to do some searching.
  • A possible reason why the original Final Fantasy 7 could be "rare and expensive" is because versions of the game on CD-ROM for the home computer do not work with any version of Windows later than Windows Millennium Edition (Windows ME). I've read that patches exist to make FF7 compatible with Windows XP and Vista, but those patches are not supported by Eidos Interactive: Use them at your own risk. I found a site that offers a laborious opportunity (you have to download twenty-one separate files, one by one, to get the complete game) to download FF7 for free and for real (no sign-up fee required, unlike many game download sites): www.ddlspot.com/final-fantasy-vii-download-75768.html Here's another link to try: www.onestopdownloads.com/search.php?a=41169&q=Final%2520Fantasy%2520VII%2520%2528PC%2529%2520Ultima%2520Edition
  • Dont know. Weve got 2 copies...guess I better hold onto em.
  • Basically because it's no longer in production, like all PS games. However, it being so popular and having lived for ten years + through spinoffs has kept its popularity heightened, as much as for the old fans as the newer ones who started playing Crisis Core long before even knowing about the original game. It's also the most popular game in the entire franchise, technically, so it stands out a lot more than plenty of other games which are just as rare. I still own my original, white disc copy haha and I ain't letting it go. SquarEnix has answered the call though, at least for PS3 owners, you can buy the game on the PSN, plus it has a few bonuses in it, as well as a fixed up translation I believe.
