I don't think there's a 'right' answer to this. Different people like Spam for different reasons. from a quick internet search, I've found that a lot of people like it because it's low in calories compared to a lot of meats, and comes in different varieties. It seems to have first gained popularity during the Second World War, when people ate it because it was reasonably cheap, and had a longish shelf life.
