  • Should you not better ask your doctor about this.
  • I've had herpes since 2001, my husband doesn't have it. When I have an outbreak, we don't have vaginal sex. We don't use condoms. I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant. My doctor told me (you should ask yours) the only risk from mother to child is if you have your initial (1st) outbreak (you know, the one that lasts 3 weeks) while you're pregnant, or if you have a reoccurring outbreak when you go into labor. Then they do a c-section and the risk of passing it to your baby is VERY low. Having outbreaks during pregnancy do little to nothing to the baby, and you can still take Valtrex. My doctor prescribed it to me a couple days ago, to take now through birth. Again, please talk to your doctor, your body may be different than mine. I'm one of the lucking ones. I've only had about 10 - 15 outbreaks since October 2001. I've had two during my pregnancy so far, that's the most I've had in 8 months since 2001-2002. I sometimes forget I have it. My husband and I have been together since 2004, and even though Herpes can stay dormant in your body for up to a year before you have your initial outbreak, he hasn't shown any signs :)
  • My friend has herpes and she choose to have a C section to reduce the risk of infecting her child. It worked for her. Her son is okay.
  • You may just have to get a C-section
