No, it is not likely that you are "allergic" to fluorescent lighting, but some people do have difficulty working under them. There are a couple of factors at work. Some people are bothered by the flickering of fluorescent tubes. Incandescent lights also flicker, but for some reason some people are bothered more by fluorescents. I sometimes experience a strong flickering sensation for a few seconds after I move from an area with bright fluorescent lighting into a less-well lit area (e.g., walking into the darkroom in my photo classes at college). This is a minor irritant for me, but can give some people headaches, even when they are not immediately aware of the flicker. The other factor is the colour of the light emitted by fluorescent lighting. Incandescent bulbs are quite 'warm' and the light from them is yellow-red in hue. Sunlight is 'cooler' and can be almost bluish at noon. Fluorescent bulbs emit some discrete frequencies of light, with greens and purples predominating. Not only can this make photographs take on funny hues, but it can bother some individuals. Daylight bulbs and bulbs intended for use as grow-lights produce the most normal colours to the human eye.
