    Well I am now doing a paper on muscle cars.....and from what I've researched....the Firebird believe it or not is/was considered a "Pony Car"....to answer your question....it definatly was a popular car

    A lot of them could be had with a V8 on a frame that was made for a 6 cylinder giving it a nice HP/Mass ratio. The engine compartment had room to move in and a lot of after market upgrades were readily available that would allow you to "soop it up" for more horses.
