Anything really can attract you to the opposite sex or even the similar sex. Their smell, their look, you may have a fetish for something that attracts you toward them. Sometimes its just plain instinct that attracts you to the opposite sex. Humans are animals and we share the same animal urges. You want to find a mate and either have kids or stay close to them because they offer great comfort. There are many answers to this question and these are just a few. Many people argue over this question as well whether it is God's way or an Evolutionary product. Really everyone has different reasons for being attracted to the opposite sex and I feel you yourself choose what attracts you. Hope this helps.

I think that a guy is most attracted to a woman with a a nice smile and who likes to laugh and has a great outlook on life. A woman would go for the guys who respect them and want to make a commitment(this does not go good with all woman). Girls are going to want a guy who tries to keep himself clean and has good hygene (guys if you have good hygene its a lot of points!) I dont really know about what other girls think are attractive but thats just my opinion.

What makes them attractive to me is a look of being ready, willing and able to laugh and enjoy themselves. No brooding, somber, pretty boys for me, thanks :)

I hate to use this answer "Compatability" because Harmony.com has used it so much but that is part and the other big one is "health". There are a zillion reasons of attraction the hard part if maintaining it.
