you can "tell" them to stop but its up to that person if he or she want to stop or not. Obviously they know smoking is not good for their health (says so in the box)
-
It's there life they will do what they want. Isn't free will magnificient.
-
try the harsh method.... tell them boy their breath really stinks since they started smoking and say hmmm i never knew it would be like that..... and them in a couple of days say did you know your teeth have gotten yellow just like tar has collected to your teeth : O i bet that will at least get them to think.
-
Better than tell them, why don't you show them pictures of smoker's lungs. It grossed me out.
-
You can't tell them to quit. If they want to, they will. Not a thing you can do about it.
-
The obvious, that it's incredibly hard to stop... and that they will one day say to themselves "I wish I never started smoking". My friend's mother knows somebody who is 25, been smoking for 4 years and was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. That definitely impacted my decision on trying to stop.

By telling them the negative effects of smoking and showing them somebody who may be suffering due to it :-)

If they're single, tell them they just diminished their dating pool by like a third. Non smokers typically won't date a smoker and smokers don't care one way or the other.

u can't do ne thing. honestly u can't. i'm 18 been smokin since i was 13...people have told me that my breath has stunk since i started....they've told me my teeth are gettin yellow, they've shown me pics of people wit lung cancer n all the shit they have to go thru...n yea i htought about it...but it didn't faze me i was like whatever...then i got pregnant...stopped for about 3 months...then couldn't deal with it ne more so i went back to smokin...theres honestly nothing u can do ...i'm sorry to say. if their gunna smoke just tell em NOT around u...and if they smell tell em to not come around u...so maybe they wont smoke as much....sorry

Unfortunatly not much. If there a girl and your a boy then calling them ugly because of it could work. Otherwise I tend to stand a little further away and when they ask why I tell them they stink. But you could loose friends that way.

If they are unwilling to change their behavior, there is not much you can do until they decide to take action. However, if they are open to the idea, understanding the cycle of behavior change can help you help them. There are several things you can do to help someone quit smoking. No matter what you do, encourage them at every step along the way. Encouragement and personal support, according to the CDC, makes a smoker 50 percent more likely to succeed. How should you encourage them? Follow the Trans theoretical Model of Change (Prochaska, DiClemente, & Norcross, 1992). Knowing where your smoking peers or family are can help you provide pointed encouragement. Understand behavior change: Behavior change happens over six stages, and your goal is to help them move into the next phase--except for stage 6: 1) Precontemplation - In this stage, a person doesn't think anything is wrong with his behavior. (Encourage them to think about it). 2) Contemplation - Acknowledge that a problem exists. (Encourage them to consider options that exist to change their behavior). 3) Preparation - There is at least a loose commitment to change. (Encourage them by repeating their stated goals. Tell them you believe they can do it. Offer to assist them if necessary). 4) Action - They are taking action to change their behavior. (Cheer them on as they accomplish their goals. Tell them how good they're doing and be available for them). 5) Maintenance - The behavior has changed to their goal behavior. Some stay here permanently. (Check in periodically to see how their doing. Keep poisonous behaviors and triggers at bay). 6) Relapse or Lapse - They return to their old behavior fully or partially. (Help them focus on what they've accomplished, not their failures. Talk about how next time can be different). For more information on helping someone quit smoking, visit http://www.WeDidItStory.com. It's a nonprofit site dedicated to helping non-smokers (and smokers) help in the fight against tobacco.
