Do any religions imply that people should be deceptive in order to protect their belief system?

None that I am aware of. But if I was aware of one, I would be deceptive and tell you it didn't exist so I could protect my belief system.

It depends really. I mean if it is to protect your belife then I should imagine that it will be justified as moral. I was reading this sort of thing recently in an ethics book.
