If you do something to an unconscious body which results in the death of the unconscious body but you assumed it was a corpse really is that involuntary manslaughter if you could prove that you honestly thought that the person was already dead?

By definition that IS involuntary manslaughter. Otherwise you could be charged with a more serious crime (murder etc.).

Doing something to any body that you know could cause harm or death is a crime. Doing something to a body that you think is dead is first of all sick and highly illegal. There is a name for it...forget what it's called but if you harm an already dead body, you can be charged with a serious crime (Even if the body was 100% dead prior to doing something to it.) I think it's called Necrophelia...I am sure I spelled that wrong but it's pronounced Neck-ro-fil-ia
