There were a little over 2200 people on the Titanic total; 1502 died, and 705 survived. There were a lot of Americans on board, returning home from England and other European destinations. There were also quite a few immigrants from Scandinavia, England and Ireland. The larges casualties were men, followed by quite a few third class immigrant people from the aforementioned countries.

The exact number of people aboart and the exact number that died is debated. The only confirmed number is the number of survivors: 712 were listed as having survived. The number 705 or 706 was usually listed and today is copied from book to book without source.
