  • It is most likely a vacuum leak. These engines are notorious for the throttle body gasket causing a vacuum leak.
  • I also own a 1988 chevy 1500. Engine turns over and starts, but then the idle drops down so low it almost stalls, then it revs back up. Goes back and forth like this until it finally stalls. We changed EVERY sensor you can think of and checked all lines for vaccum leaks, still does it. Finally I hooked a small electric fuel pump to the fuel intake. Started the engine and it purrs like a kitten. Tomorrow I will be replacing the fuel pump.
