I've heard that in terms of search engine optimization, repetition of content is bad. Am I hurting myself by repeating my business slogan on each page of my site?

Repeating content probably isn't a good idea because you don't want endless mentions of one thing [your slogan], you want lots of mentions of different things from your site. A workaround: make a graphic with your slogan, and put that on each page. Also, my understanding of what search engine bots do regarding indexing pages is that they most frequently look at page titles rather than meta tags, so bear that in mind when working on your site.
