  • Amazon.com's affiliate program is probably a pretty representative example of the field; you would need a website to participate in their affiliate program as your profit comes from someone clicking on a link on your website to theirs that contains your specific user code to credit you with the potential sale. As far as needing your own domain name [if that is what you mean by your own website], that isn't always necessary but it looks more professional and established than, say, a website hosted on a free service with a lot of banners and popups and serious bandwidth/storage restrictions.
