  • The word "plastic" comes from the Greek word plastikos, meaning "to mold or shape." Many of the first plastic surgeries were developed to close a difficult wound or replace tissue lost due to injury or cancer. These procedures often involved the formation of a skin flap to reshape or mold the defect so as to approximate the original shape. Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty dedicated to reconstruction of facial and body defects due to birth disorders, trauma, burns, and disease. http://www.antell-md.com/plasticsurgeryq1.html The term "Cosmetic Surgery" means medically unnecessary surgical procedures, usually, but not limited to, plastic surgery directed toward preserving beauty.
  • I think it's perfectly fine if the person wants to do it; it can help with self confidence and have a dramatic affect on that persons lifestyle.
  • I see no problem with trying to improve yourself. However, some people just keep going until things get silly (Pandora Peeks for example) and I think there should be a legal limit as to how many times someone can have surgery on one specific aspect of their body (boob enlargement in the PP example).
  • I agree with this article: HOW TO AGE GRACEFULLY--BY Robert Redford "Don't get plastic surgery. You should not try to hold your place in time. It's becoming such a cosmetically conscious country. Everyone is getting lifted and squeezed and tucked. It's become a cult. Everyone is looking 20 when they're 110 years old. I don't care about lifts. It just doesn't feel right. I don't know if this sounds old fashioned, but if you start doing that, you start chipping away at little pieces of your soul."
  • I think it's a great idea if it's what a person wants (of course, you have to apply common sense here). Personally, I'm saving up for the face transplant.
  • I think if it makes a person feel good about themselves, it's great! As long as they don't take out a 2nd mortgage or dip into the food budget to do it!:)
